So you want to plan a movie night that’s cozy and fun, but you don’t know where to start. Maybe you just want to make sure you’re not missing anything. Don’t worry, I’ve been there too and I’ve got you covered.
To make your life easier, I compiled a list of everything you’ll need for that night.
Even if you’re not planning a movie night, taking time to relax is fundamental to self-care. It allows you to ease your mind and recharge. This post will show you how to make things look aesthetic, the best movie night snacks, movie night movies, and more!
This post is all about cozy movie night.
Quick Guide: Best Cozy Movie Night
1) Make It Look Aesthetic
If you love to decorate, this will be your favorite part of planning your movie night! Making the setting look aesthetic, whether it’s your backyard or your bedroom, will help you get in the mood for movies and will make you feel extra cozy.
This can be done by having the following key items for your cozy movie night. If you’re trying to go for a cohesive look, choose a color scheme and have a clear theme!
And obviously, even if you’re not planning a movie night, being cozy is always the goal.
-
Lights/Candles
I know that usually when you watch movies it’s dark. For instance, if you went to the movie theater, the lights would most likely be dimmed. Since this is your movie night, you can do whatever you want.
You can get bright fairy lights if you don’t want a well-lit room or simply don’t want it to be super dark. In the same way, you can go for candles and fewer fairy lights if you want the focus to mainly be on the screen.
Aesthetics are personal, so try to think about what kind of vibe you want to go for. Then use the right lights to match that theme and you’re good!
-
Projector
I don’t know about you, but when I think of an aesthetic movie night, it always includes a projector. Of course, you can watch the movie(s) on your laptop or TV and leave it at that. However, if you want to really go for THAT look, definitely use a projector.
I recommend the Elephas 2021 Wifi Movie Projector. It’s comparable to other high-quality projectors despite its price point being more affordable. It’s got good sound with built-in speakers, clear visuals, it’s easy to set up, etc!
-
Pillows
When it comes to having a cozy movie night, you can’t really go wrong with pillows. This does depend on where you’re having your movie night though.
I would mostly recommend making sure there are a bunch of pillows if you’re sitting on the ground, like outside in your backyard, or on the floor inside somewhere.
-
Blankets
Don’t forget the blankets, of course! This would be one of the first things I’d be sure to have.
Imagine trying to have a cozy movie night without a blanket… Oh wait, I can’t.
2) Movie Night Snacks
-
Popcorn
This is the most basic food to eat while watching a movie and there’s a good reason for it! Well, unless you don’t like butter or kernels getting stuck in your teeth.
For those of you who do like popcorn, you could use a popcorn machine, or a microwave, or buy a bag from the store. You could go further by getting those popcorn buckets they have at the movies too.
If you decide to go old-fashioned and use a popcorn machine, get ready for an interesting experience. The first time I used a popcorn machine, let’s just say it was a process to get the popcorn to taste good. Hopefully, that was a rare case.

Candy
This is one of my favorite snacks to eat while watching a movie. Sometimes you just get tired of eating popcorn, and that’s okay.
So make sure there’s candy, especially if you have a sweet tooth like me.
-
Nachos/Chips
This is another one you can’t go wrong it. If it’s movie night with friends maybe get your group’s top favorite chips. While you’re at the store, you might as well get some salsa, cheese dip, guac, etc.
-
Hot Drinks
Your choice of hot chocolate, coffee, or tea would be so comforting during a cozy movie night.
Imagine it’s chilly and raining outside, and you’re inside watching movies. All the while, you’re huddled in your fluffy blankets with a hot cup of (your favorite). I mean, come on?!
3) Dress Cozy
-
Sweats/PJs
This one’s a given.
If you like to dress nicely even when you’re at home, ditch your fancy clothes for comfortable clothing. At least for one cozy movie night.
Honestly, I don’t know how you do it, but I have a lot of respect for you.
-
Fuzzy Socks
Who doesn’t love fuzzy socks? Especially in the colder months, this is a great way to make sure you’re cozy from head to toe.
Am I the only one getting flashbacks to when they blast the AC at the movies in the summer and I stupidly wore sandals?
4) Movie Night Movies
Really you can watch anything you want, but if you did all the other work above, you might as well have the movie match the aesthetic as well. Right?
-
A Series
This is a good idea if you want to watch more than one movie since you could turn your movie night into a movie marathon.
Some ideas: The Hunger Games, Back to the Future, Scream
-
Something Seasonal
I mostly associate cozy with cold weather, but you could have a cozy movie night at any point in the year. So when it’s summer you might watch a movie like The Beach (2000) and when it’s fall, you might watch a movie like The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993).
-
Something Nostalgic
There’s a solid reason why nostalgia is such a powerful feeling. Most of the time, it’s comforting because we can be reminded of our perceived simpler times or the “good old days”.
Some ideas: basically any Disney Channel Original movie, your favorite childhood book-to-movie adaptation, a movie you watched a million times as a kid, a movie that was released while you were younger, etc
-
Your Favorite
If you’re still stuck or can’t decide because now you have too many options, I get it. Simply watch your favorite movie, even if you’ve seen it a bunch.
If it’s your favorite, it shouldn’t disappoint.
